For those who missed the 150 Year Celebration of Park County, it was a hit! Food and presentations were GREAT...as was the cake! And the snow, thunder and lightning waited until we were done!

Weather pending, our next event is Saturday December 10th at the PC Community Center in Shawnee from 5:00-7:00. This is a fundraiser so there will be a dinner for $5.00 and a history presentation. We'll be serving sloppy joes and hot chocolate.

We need three volunteers to make sloppy joe mix(es) and a few volunteers to bring an item such as buns, chips, maybe a salad or baked beans. Any item that goes well with sloppy joes. I'm making homemade chocolate cupcakes. Please send emails to both me and Dee Brown and let us know what you can provide. We don't want to overdo it but we're hoping for a huge turnout.

Also....make note that the PCHS will be at "Cowboy Christmas", at the Rustic Square in downtown Bailey, on Sunday December 4th serving hot cider in the caboose at McGraw Park. There will also be 3 fire pits going where kids can make "smores". The school house will be open.

Thank you!

On December 10, we will be treated to a special program on the Postal History along the route of the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad.

Erwin Engert of Lakewood, who will present the program, is a member of the Denver Post Card Club, the Colorado Postal History Society, the Denver Stamp Club and the Rocky Mountain Philatelic Library.

You will see rare historical items from place names along the railroad in the Platte River Canyon and ranging from Denver to Breckenridge to Gunnison and many in between.
This, of course, includes much in Park County. You will also learn of the Denver & Como Railroad and the Como & Gunnison Railroad.
You will see rare postmarks and cards from Cassells, Chase, Farnham, Insmont and Webster, and a rare card postmarked at the post office at Boreas.

After leaving Park county there are many more items from Divide, Saunders CaƱon, and Newett, as the railroad passed through Trout Creek Canyon into Buena Vista and beyond.

Hope to see everyone on December 10.
